Biography

  • Pamela Kaval is a New Zealand filmmaker, screenwriter, and actor. She is the founder of Wildaval Productions, through which she has written, produced, and/or directed 19 short films spanning comedy, mockumentary, satire, drama, horror, and documentary-inspired storytelling. She is currently developing a television series and a feature film.

Pamela’s films have screened internationally at festivals including the Academy Award-qualifying San Luis Obispo International Film Festival and the Busan International Kids and Youth Film Festival. Her recent project, Garden Cops, starring Tom Sainsbury (Wellington Paranormal, Loop Track), is in post-production and is being developed as a proof-of-concept for a longer-form series. Her short film The Taxi (2025) stars Joe Naufahu (Game of Thrones, Spartacus, My Life Is Murder) alongside Pamela and is on the international festival circuit.

As an actor, Pamela has appeared in more than 20 screen productions, including the long-running New Zealand television series Shortland Street and the Korean SBS program Dear My Mother. Her screen credits also include feature films, television movies, series such as Cabin Crew and My Favourite Dead Person, and numerous short films, for which she has received several acting awards.

In addition to her filmmaking and acting work, Pamela serves as Youth Program Manager for the Misty Flicks Film Festival and runs youth filmmaking workshops across New Zealand’s Waikato region through Wildaval Productions.

Before moving into filmmaking, Pamela worked as an environmental academic, editor, and park ranger, publishing more than 100 works on sustainability and biodiversity. Her novels are represented by the Frances Plumpton Literary Agency.
