Biography

Daniel is an award winning writer/director and a veteran prop master by trade. Starting with the music video boom of the late 90's, he has moved onto independent feature films, working with the Art Department teams on Sundance winners: Crown Heights, The Forty Year Old Version, 2023 Grand Jury winner: A Thousand And One and the Oscar nominated, The Farewell. Recently, (2024) he completed working with the production design teams on A24's Friendship and The Room Next Door (Golden Lion winner -Venice '24) by Spanish master Pedro Almodovar. He's worked closely with such talents as Ben Stiller, Cynthia Nixon and Paul Rudd along with Academy Award winners Tilda Swinton, Julianne Moore, Sean Penn, Geoffrey Rush and many more.

Writer /Director/ Producer : Featured in the New York Times and on NBC News, Daniel is a multi-award-winning Ecuadorian-American screenwriter, director, and experimental film artist, who found success with a personal practice in several genres he's explored.

Daniel's work has earned recognition at over 100 film festivals, gallery exhibitions, and micro cinemas both in the U.S. & internationally. This includes LALO, featuring Billy Magnussen (Best Short Film at the HBO/NY Latino International Film Festival). His debut feature, H.O.M.E., starring Mexican Ariel winner, Jesús Ochoa, premiered at the Museum of Moving Image, followed by screenings at the American Cinematheque, Bentonville Film Festival, and at over 25 premier international festivals. Garnering awards for Best Feature & Best Director, the film received a nomination for Best U.S. Latino Film from the Cinema Tropical Awards.

As a former Creative Capital- On The Radar Co-Artist, Daniel has also showcased his handmade experimental works in group shows at places such as Rome's Maxxi Museum BNL, Brooklyn Museum of Art, Museum of Modern Art, and Mexico's Cineteca Nacional.

With a Blacklist rating of 9, Daniel's latest feature script in development was selected as a Cine Qua Non Lab and Stowe Story Lab Retreat participating project. It was a Sidewalk Film Fellowship Finalist and advanced to the 2nd round of the Sundance Development Labs .
