Dava Whisenant

Biography

  • Dava Whisenant's debut feature, the critically-acclaimed musical comedy "Bathtubs Over Broadway," garnered her a Best Director award at the Tribeca Film Festival, a WGA Award for Best Documentary Screenplay, and an ACE editing nomination. Whisenant has worked as an editor, producer, and story consultant for more than two decades. Recent collaborations include Kim Reed's "I'm Your Venus" (Netflix), XTR's music doc about songwriting legend Diane Warren (Masterclass), and the Emmy-nominated Reading Rainbow documentary "Butterfly in the Sky" (Netflix).

Whisenant received an Emmy for her work on Nat Geo's "The Flagmakers," and she edited and produced Sam Pollard's "Two Trains Runnin", nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Music Film. Other music docs include Focus Features' 3D rave documentary "Under the Electric Sky" (Sundance Film Festival) and an American Masters film about country icon Merle Haggard. She is a member of American Cinema Editors (ACE), the WGA, the Television Academy, and Film Fatales.

Whether documentary or narrative, Dava's style is defined primarily by warmth and humor, and a responsibility to serve the story. Her diverse experience includes serving as Supervising Producer for BBC Worldwide, an editing assistant to Steven Soderbergh, and several years as an editor at the "Late Show with David Letterman."
