L.A. Sweeney

L.A. Sweeney is a Dora Award nominated Canadian actress and writer whose career has steadily evolved from Toronto's independent theatre scene to leading roles in film and some of Canada's most celebrated stages. She is an international Monologue Slam champion having won in both Toronto and New York. On screen, L.A. portrays iconic Black Panther Party leader, educator, and civil rights activist Ericka Huggins in 2026’s Being Heumann, directed by Academy Award-winner Siân Heder and selected as the Opening Film of the Toronto International Film Festival. L.A. has led three feature films, including Last Resort, which earned her a Best Lead Actress nomination, Secrets of a University and the upcoming feature film We're Getting Out of Here Alive. Additional screen credits include Cross, Doc, SkyMed, Taken at a Basketball Game, Village Keeper, Shelved, Two Brothers, Nadine Pick Up the Phone and more.
