David Varga - Composer/Music Producer/Editor

David Varga, a five time Emmy Award winning Film/Video Editor is also a Composer and Music Producer. He writes in both electronic and acoustic mediums and has had music performed in numerous different settings. David has scored soundtracks and themes for: theater productions, film, television (broadcast, streaming and cable) and interactive media, in addition to commercials, video games and concert halls. He also contributes regularly to several music production libraries. His music and sound design have heightened the experience of audiences around the world.

He is the son of concert violinists Ruben Varga and Norma Varga. For several generations, his family has been involved in music. After studying with such prestigious composers as: David Del Tredici, Robert Starrer, and Tania Leon, he completed his first degree in traditional composition and went on to achieve a second degree in music technology. He followed this with an MFA in television production which provided him with a wide knowledge of video production and post production.

The TV networks David's music has appeared on include: NBC, CBS, Discovery, TLC, FOX, MSNBC, CNBC, Sundance Channel, BET, PBS, OWN, Lifetime, Oxygen, USA, MY9 and The Weather Channel. Also, Netflix, Amazon, and Hulu.

Various indie films he scored have appeared in festivals. Examples include: "Impostor"and "Happy Ending" premiering at CineGear Expo at Paramount Studios and The Newport Beach Film Festival respectively. "Gloves Off" premiering at the Tribeca Festival.

David's works have been performed at a variety of New York venues including Gershwin Hall, Aaron Davis Hall, Riverside Church, Here NY, La Mama and Theater For the New City as well as in local and national broadcasts. His string quartet "Ruined Cathedral" was premiered in the M.S.O. Fellowship Recital Series, Montgomery, AL.

He published an industrial-rock album under the name, Cyborg Asylum, in 2017 and continues to release material with this band. In 2020, Cyborg Asylum released two singles: the original track, 'No Kingdom' and a cover of the Pat Benatar hit, 'Invincible', which has garnered over 80,000 views and counting on YouTube with it's music video. Cyborg Asylum is available on most popular music streaming platforms.

As a five time Emmy Award winning Editor, David Varga has edited a wide range of award winning film and video projects for more than two decades. Some examples are: Discovery Channel's Emmy winning "Global Warming-What You Need To Know With Tom Brokaw" where he was Lead Editor. He is an Emmy Award winner for Quick Turn Around Editing for NBC News' "Inside The Obama White House with Brian Williams" and also for Outstanding Live Breaking News Coverage for "The January 6 Attack on the Capitol". He was also nominated for an Editing Emmy for "1968 with Tom Brokaw" on History Ch.

His editing experience began in the early 1990s as a Protools audio editor, a skill that has proved to be extremely useful in video editing. Being a music composer is another skill that comes in handy when finessing and editing picture to music or vice versa. In this type of work, it is vital to have a knowledge of rhythm and phrasing.

In the mid 90's, before working on Avid and other non-linear edit systems, he very briefly worked on linear beta and 1 inch systems.

His body of editing work includes: national commercials, broadcast and cable television shows including documentaries and reality TV, studio-based shows, podcasts and out-door sports events. David has also edited independent films and music videos, including editorial work on "All the Way to Reno" for the band R.E.M. directed by Michael Moore. Additionally, he has worked as a producer and camera man. Other related work includes After Effects compositing and animation and extensive knowledge of music technology, audio engineering and mixing.

David's work has been seen on screens around the world. Working as an editor and composer for so many years has enabled David to work with many producers, directors, executives, agency reps., and other composers, editors and creative professionals in a broad range of companies, networks and production facilities. This wide ranging career has provided him with a wealth of experience.
