Biography

Cecilia Romo (she/her) is a first-generation Mexican-American, queer filmmaker. She is a Sacramento State University graduate, a dedicated daughter, wife, caretaker and artist. Cecilia's work stems from her early beginnings, learning to read, write and interpret the world around her. As a filmmaker, Cecilia developed a commitment to finding truth in her narratives, leading her to explore the nuances of her characters through their desires, inner conflicts, and personal relationships. Passionate about making filmmaking a diverse and inclusive space, in front and behind the camera, she highlights the beauty and complexities of marginalized voices through her storytelling.

Cecilia's undergraduate capstone film Sueños De Mi Hija is a personally inspired female driven story that delivered alternative Latinas and immigrant mothers their flowers and was featured on LatinaMediaCo, a Latina focused site covering Latina media. She was the recipient of the 2023 STARZ "Take the Lead" Post-Production Grant and the Grand Jury winner at March On Washington Film Festival in the 2023 Narrative Emerging Filmmaker category. Most recently Cecilia was the recipient of the inaugural BENT Sacramento LGBTQ+ Film and Arts Fund and the 2024 Sacramento Film + Media Production Grant. Cecilia's goal is to disarm tropes and create authentic Latine/x representation with a queer and female-focus lens.

Dedicated to creating space for women and underrepresented voices in the creative industry has led her to establish Algo Bueno Productions - a Latina owned and diversely operated media company crafting authentic storytelling through diversity and inclusion
