Biography

Mick Pointer was born on 22 July 1956 in Buckinghamshire, England. He was a founding member (and came up with the name) of the Aylesbury-based prog-rock band Marillion. He was their drummer until April 1983, which included the band's platinum-certified first album "Script for a Jester's Tear". He was fired on the insistence of lead singer Fish, who was very unhappy with his timing and musical development, and eventually replaced by Ian Mosley. He took a long time out of the music industry, instead working as a kitchen designer, but he eventually returned to form another prog-rock band, Arena, who released their debut album, "Songs from the Lion's Cage", in 1995. The band have since released seven further studio albums, five live albums and three EPs.

He started drumming at the age of 19.

Between leaving Marillion in 1983 and forming Arena in 1994, Pointer worked as a carpenter and moved into kitchen design.
