Manolis Mitsias

Manolis Mitsias is a Greek singer known for his enduring presence in the laïko, light laïko, and entekhno traditions of modern Greek music. With a career spanning more than five decades, he has become one of the most respected voices in the Greek musical landscape. He began his journey in the village of Doumpia, developing an early passion for Byzantine and folk music. While studying in Thessaloniki, he became involved in the local arts scene and launched his singing career in a boîte he co-founded. His recording debut came in 1969 with the song "Stin Elefsina mia fora", composed by Dimos Moutsis. Throughout his prolific career, Mitsias has collaborated with many of Greece's most celebrated composers, including Mikis Theodorakis, Manos Hatzidakis, Stavros Xarhakos, and Giannis Markopoulos. He has interpreted the works of acclaimed poets and lyricists and has performed alongside notable singers such as Maria Farantouri, Dimitra Galani, and Vicky Moscholiou. Mitsias has appeared extensively in concert across Greece and Cyprus, as well as for Greek communities abroad, and remains a prominent figure in the country's cultural life.
