  • Ramesh Chandra Gupta, popularly known as R. Chandra, was a noted Indian film producer and director, born in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, India. He began his cinematic journey with the film Apradhi Kaun? in 1957. A key figure in the Hindi film industry during the mid-20th century, he owned and operated Adarsh Studio in Lucknow.

    R. Chandra is best remembered for producing classic blockbuster films such as Basant Bahar (1956) and Barsaat Ki Raat (1960). He made his directorial debut with the film Nai Umar Ki Nai Fasal in 1965. He was also the younger brother of celebrated Hindi film actor Bharat Bhushan, further rooting him in the legacy of Indian cinema.

    Beyond filmmaking, R. Chandra contributed to the industry's organizational development. He served as the President of the Indian Motion Picture Producers' Association (IMPPA) from 1960 to 1962, playing a crucial role in representing and supporting the interests of film producers during his tenure.
