Marvin J. Levy is Senior Advisor to Steven Spielberg at Amblin Partners. He segued to Amblin Partners from Dreamworks Studios, and from Steven Spielberg's Amblin Entertainment before that, where he was a marketing consultant since 1982 handling advertising. publicity, and promotions for motion pictures and television. Previously, he had an eight-year association with Columbia Pictures where he was vice president of advertising/publicity/promotion. Among his projects were Close Encounters of the Third Kind, which was the first time he worked with Spielberg. The China Syndrome. Kramer vs. Kramer and Tess. and Sophie's Choice for Universal. A Phi Beta Kappa graduate of New York University's College of Arts and Science, he served on the Board of Governors of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for 23 years. He was the Chairman of the Academy's Public Relations Branch for many of those years. In 2018, Levy was honored with an Academy Award at the annual Governors Awards, the very first honorary Oscar ever for a member of the Academy's publicity branch.

Served in the United States Air Force where he first worked in public relations and advertising out of Selfridge Air Force Base in Michigan.
Joined the PR firm Blowitz, Thomas and Canton in 1964, remaining with them until the company disbanded a decade later, after which he relocated to Los Angeles and ended up at Columbia Pictures. It was there that among his projects for the studio was marketing "Close Encounters of the Third King" which began his decades long work as a publicist for Steven Spielberg.
He moved into entertainment in the late 1940s, working as a writer and producer before being hired in publicity for MGM. During his years with MGM, he handled local promotional efforts for legendary films including "Gigi" and "Ben-Hur.".
