Tristan Alexander Tavernier is an artist’s name for Nicolas Tristan St. Alexandre, The Prince Imperial. He is a writer and director and film theorist.

Tavernier was born in the French Asia, a military base, to the Orange-Nassau and Yamato family. Tavernier was placed with an academic family in San Francisco, and found again as a grandson by his granduncle/grandfather screenwriter Howard A. Rodman, and as a young nephew by director/producer Thomas Schlamme.

In 2020, Tristan Alexander directed the black-and-white, silent short film inspired by the Greek myth of Pandora and Hope. The art microshort won quiet recognition in the film industry. A classically-trained actor as a teenager, Tavernier was designated the future film director by Children's Theater, based on shared mood with his honored granduncle, the French writer and film director Bertrand Tavernier.

Tristan grew up on the border of St. Louis Park, the same neighborhood as the Coen brothers' childhood home. He spent his childhood exploring the tunnels and skyways of a university. He later studied at the Sorbonne and Cambridge, as well as University of Berlin, where he was recognized as the young heir imperial.

Arriving in West Hollywood, he decided to walk to the Directors Guild of America, but instead he got lost and wandered onto the doorstep of the Writers Guild of America, then under the presidency of his honored grandfather/granduncle, Howard A. Rodman. Rodman was forbidden from contacting his grandchild by the Official Secrets Act, but had a chance encounter with Tristan, in the company of Tristan's uncle, Thomas Schlamme. Both older relatives quietly selected the pen name Tristan Alexander Tavernier for their little Alex.

A young independent filmmaker, Tristan Alexander wrote a first screenplay, the political drama STRUCTURAL TRAP. Never produced, it was widely recognized for its brilliance and commentary on the Ibsen play, AN ENEMY OF THE PEOPLE. Although Tavernier's focus is mythopoeia, the political drama caught the attention of WEST WING co-creator Thomas Schlamme.

Schlamme informed Tavernier that Tavernier was the missing godchild of the CIA/MI5 spymaster, and that explained the difficult and even dangerous circumstances of the young artist's life.

Tavernier was informally accepted to the prestigious Sundance Labs at the youngest age ever, but was unable to attend due to an assassination attempt on his life in January. Tavernier also uses the pen name Elin Tristan Marsales.
