- Buya Hamka was born on February 17, 1908 in Agam, West Sumatera, Dutch East Indies [now Indonesia]. Buya was a writer, known for Para Perintis Kemerdekaan (1977), Under the Protection of Ka'bah (2011) and The Sinking of Van Der Wijck (2013). Buya was married to Siti Khadijah and Sitti Raham binti Rasul Endah Sutan. Buya died on July 24, 1981 in Jakarta, Indonesia.
