Opera singer (soprano).

Professor of Voice and Opera at the School of Music of the University of Maryland, USA.

Signature roles included Pamina in "The Magic Flute", Micaela in Bizet's "Carmen," Cio-Cio-San in Puccini's "Madame Butterfly," Liu in Puccini's "Turandot," Bess in Gershwin's "Porgy and Bess", and the title roles in Joplin's "Treemonisha" and in Burrs' and Williams' "Vanqui".

She studied voice at the University of Maryland and Catholic University.

When she was 26, she won first prize in the Metropolitan Opera's National Council Auditions.

Her father repaired radios and TVs, and worked in the printing office of the Justice Department. Her mother was a homemaker.
