Biography

Georges Ledez was born on September 6, 1935 in Antwerpen, Flanders, Belgium. He was an actor and cinematographer, known for Commissaris Roos (1990), Langs de kade (1988) and De Kanarifant (1960). He died on June 27, 2018 in Edegem, Flanders, Belgium.

Georges Ledez is explicitly named as one of the six pioneers of the Antwerp Fakeltheater. Alongside Walter Groener, Bob Stijnen, Tony De Quinze, Jan Verbist, and Leo Leemans, he was part of the group that helped develop the theater from its founding in 1956.

To mark the 65th anniversary of the Fakkeltheater in 2021, Georges Ledez was honored with a portrait in the theater's hall of fame. Director Sam Verhoeven described him as one of the people who helped build up the theater from its early years.

When the Fakkeltheater lost its subsidies in the mid-1990s and its very survival was threatened, Walter Groener, Georges Ledez, Leo Leemans, and others continued to work tirelessly to keep the theater afloat.

In addition to being a theater director, he was also a teacher at Den Tir ("Den Tir" in Antwerp is the colloquial name for a well-known site in the Kiel district. It takes its name from the old shooting ranges (*Tir à la Cible*) that were once located there. The school on the site was formerly known as SITO 6 (Municipal Institute for Technical Education No. 6). Later, it became SPIA (Municipal Polytechnic Institute Antwerp), a technical school).

He performed in dozens of productions at the Fakkeltheater and remained steadfast in his role as technical director even after funding was cut in 1994. He held this position until 2008.
