Chengyu (Tate) Lu is a Los Angeles-based Chinese filmmaker working as an art director, line producer, writer and director. His debut short Far Above the Starry Sky was nominated for the Golden Rooster Awards -often called "China Oscars." Since then he has specialized in ultra-fast vertical dramas, serving on hits such as Claimed by the Alpha I Hate (2025, 93.6 M views), Resisting Mr. Lloyd (2024, 69 M), and Playing by the Billionaires Rules (2023, 32.9 M). Featured in coverage by Vulture and the Los Angeles Times on the rise of vertical dramas, Lu is known for building cinematic worlds on English-Mandarin bilingual sets and micro-budgets. His first feature screenplay is now in development.
