Strong Ghent accent

During his life he saw about 12,000 films, or 44 millions meter film, "of which possibly already 30 millions I have to forget", as he said. He was promoter, critic but especially also lover of the film medium, and at the same time also a monument of the Flemish television.

Died while visiting the Cannes Film Festival.

In 1963, he succeeded Roland Verhavert at the filmmagazine Première. He composed and presented the program until his retirement in 1991. The general public learned to know him as a pleasing man with a large heart for film, which evolved gradually from neutral presentation to mild and slightly ironical film criticism ("in this western the horses played something better then the actors").

Hosted the movie program Première on the Belgian Flemish Televesion from 1962 until 1991.
