Biography

Of African American and Puerto Rican descent, Allen Maldonado is a native of Rialto, California, just outside of Los Angeles. Raised by his single mother after losing his father to cancer at a young age, Maldonado credits her resilience, determination, and unwavering support as the foundation for his success. Growing up in a tough neighborhood, he developed the work ethic and perseverance that continue to define his career today.

At 21, Maldonado landed a year-long role on The Young & the Restless, but his rising career was unexpectedly interrupted by a near-fatal car accident involving a drunk driver. Following a difficult recovery, he steadily rebuilt his career with memorable appearances on acclaimed television series including Judging Amy, The Shield, Detroit 1-8-7, Chase, and Rizzoli & Isles. His persistence paid off, launching what has become one of Hollywood's most diverse and steadily expanding careers.

Over the years, Maldonado has amassed an impressive body of work across film, television, and voice acting. His feature film credits include Straight Outta Compton, The Equalizer opposite Denzel Washington, Cake alongside Jennifer Aniston, Sam Worthington, Anna Kendrick, and William H. Macy, Project Power opposite Jamie Foxx and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, First Match, Where's the Money?, SuperFly, and House Party.

On television, Maldonado is widely recognized for his starring role opposite Tracy Morgan and Tiffany Haddish in The Last O.G., where he also served as a writer, as well as standout performances in Black-ish, You're the Worst, Heels, The Wonder Years, and Sneakerheads.

Most recently, Maldonado starred in Netflix's hit crime thriller Nemesis, which debuted as the #1 series on Netflix, further cementing his reputation as one of Hollywood's most versatile leading talents. He also voices fan-favorite tech expert Zip in Netflix's acclaimed animated series Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft, returning for both Seasons 1 and 2 alongside Hayley Atwell.

Maldonado continues to build an exciting slate of upcoming projects. He stars opposite Tyler Lepley in the feature film Beyond The Walls and will also be seen in the highly anticipated films Popcorn and Chastity, Love Reflected, and Glory Days, further showcasing his range across drama, action, and comedy.

Beyond acting, Maldonado is a successful entrepreneur and creative visionary. He is the founder of Get It Done Records, Maldonado Media, As a producer, writer, director, and artist, he continues to expand his creative footprint both in front of and behind the camera.

When he's not working, Maldonado enjoys boxing, basketball, fitness, creating art, and spending time with his family.
