In 1977, she (alongside
Paddy Chayefsky) accepted the posthumous Oscar for "Best Actor in a Leading Role" on behalf of her late husband
Peter Finch. It was a spontaneous gesture on Chayefsky's part to invite her to join him on the stage - although the producer of the Oscar show had previously forbidden him to do it.
