Simple Minds is a Scottish rock band. They formed in Glasgow in 1977 and became the most commercially successful Scottish band of the 1980s. They achieved five UK Albums chart number one albums during their career and have sold an estimated 60 million albums. Despite various personnel changes, they continue to record and tour. The band scored a string of hit singles, becoming best known internationally for their 1985 hit "Don't You (Forget About Me)" (UK #7, US #1, Canada #1), from the soundtrack of the film The Breakfast Club.

The best-selling Scottish band of the 1980s, they had five number one albums in the UK and sold 30 million records worldwide according to the Guinness Book of British Hit Singles and Albums in 2005.

The band was initially reluctant to record the song "Don't You (Forget About Me)" for the film The Breakfast Club (1985), as they felt that they should record their own material (the song was written by Keith Forsey). They also believed that it was just a throwaway song for a forgettable film. They recorded the song within three hours and later forgot about it, as they continued to work on their next album "Once Upon A Time". After the film's release, the band discovered that the song reached #1 in the US charts. Some of the band members later agreed that they recorded something that had commercial potential.
