Biography

Marcel Cremer was born in 1955 in Crombach, Wallonia, Belgium. He was an actor and art director, known for Klein Londen, Klein Berlijn (1988), Geschiedenis mijner jeugd (1983) and Daar is een mens verdronken (1983). He died on December 20, 2009 in Cologne, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany.

In 1980, he founded the AGORA Theater, the theater of the German-speaking Community of Belgium, in St. Vith, where he worked as artistic director, director, and author. Cremer sought to respond to current social developments through his art. From the very beginning, AGORA's productions focused on co-presence, the interaction between two groups present: the audience and the performers.

Marcel Cremrer was a visionary theater person, author, director, founder and artistic director of the AGORA Theater (= The Theatre of the German-speaking Community of Belgium).

During his student days, Marcel was active as an actor and director in the politically committed student theater group led by Robert Germay.

He worked as a guest director in Germany, Austria, France and Belgium.

In Liège he studied Dutch, German and theatre studies at the Université de l'Etat.
