  • In 1958, at the age of 14, she fatally stabbed her mother's lover, gangster Johnny Stompanato, during a quarrel. Jerry Giesler represented her. The murder was deemed justifiable homicide at a coroner's inquest.
  • Her parents, Lana Turner and Stephen Crane, were married twice. Their first marriage was annulled after only seven months, but they remarried the following month when Lana discovered that she was four months pregnant. However, her parents divorced permanently in 1944 when Cheryl was just one year old.
