- Lee is the only man to win three championships not only as a driver, but as a crew chief at same time
- Held the record for most wins in NASCAR, until 1967 when Richard passed him in the all time win list

- Crashed with Johnny Beauchamp in 1961 at Daytona. He was in the hospital for four months from his injuries. He raced in four more short track races, until he retired. Beauchamp never raced again.
