Achilles Mussche(1896-1974)

His first collection of poems, "De twee vaderlanden" (The Two Fatherlands), was awarded the August Beernaert Prize in 1928 and the State Poetry Prize again in 1929. His work reflects a striving for humanism, a reconciliation between the chaotic, bleak reality and the human yearning to experience the eternally divine. In this sense, the early Mussche is perhaps more of a romantic than an expressionist.
