Biography

  • Alexander Michael Hemphill is a writer, director, and filmmaker from Fort Smith, raised primarily in Liberty and the Kansas City area. He moved to Chicago at 18 to study comedy and film at Columbia College Chicago, where he trained and performed at The Second City Training Center.

Hemphill has written for online comedy outlets, directed multiple short films, and earned quarterfinalist recognition at the Austin Film Festival for an original comedy TV pilot. His debut feature film, The Red Frame, received multiple Best Film nominations and had a short theatrical run.

In 2026, Hemphill co-founded Cú Chulainn Cinéma alongside John Joseph Dunn and Richard Burgin. The company's first project, Kayla's Going-Away Party, written and directed by Hemphill, entered production ahead of a planned 2027 shoot. His work blends dark comedy, genre deconstruction, and character-driven storytelling.
