Daughter of Terry Gilkyson.

Eliza Gilkyson is the granddaughter of Phoebe Hunter Gilkyson, owner and publisher of 'The Daily Republican', in Phoenixville, PA, which, at the time of its closing was the smallest circulation daily newspaper in the United States.

[on her song-writing strategy] First and foremost, you have to care. And to care involves a certain sense of vulnerability. You have to pay attention to all the things every day that tempt us to anesthetize ourselves, and to shut down. There are a million distractions, from drugs to just eye-candy, and if we overindulge in those things then we shut down, and when we shut down we don't care...I think that's one of the big illnesses right now, this shutting-down. So I'm always urging people to stay awake and aware, probably because I'm trying to do that. I don't want to be alone.I want the comfort of warm bodies around me and like-minded souls.
