  • After seeing Mark O'Rowe's play 'Howie the Rookie" at The Bush Theatre, he approached him and asked him had he ever considered writing a screenplay. The answer was no. Six months later, he received a phone call from O'Rowe telling him that he had written a screenplay but not to tell anyone about it. The screenplay was for Intermission (2003), which premiered in the summer of 2003.
  • In May 2005, he joined forces with British director Danny Boyle in an initiative backed by the UK Film Council which gives two screenwriters a chance to pen a feature film. Each director has their own theme and each successful writer will have their script directed by the two directors.
  • He is a graduate from the University College Cork.
  • Directed 1 actress to an Oscar nomination: Saoirse Ronan, who is nominated for Best Actress for Brooklyn (2015).
