Ajijul Hasan Surzo (born Md Ajijul Hasan Munna; October 30, 1999) is a Bangladeshi director, cinematographer, and producer based in Los Angeles. He began his career in 2016 as an assistant director in Bangladeshi television and has worked as a freelance director and cinematographer since 2017, contributing to more than 100 productions across the United States, Germany, Bangladesh, and India over the past decade.
Surzo made his directorial debut with the documentary The Auxiliary Verb (2017), which screened at the International Children’s Film Festival Bangladesh at the Bangladesh National Museum and was an official selection of the Dadasaheb Phalke International Film Festival. His short film Manabi (2018), which he directed, shot, and edited, won the Best Film Award at the SRHR Film Festival at the University of Dhaka. As a cinematographer, his work on D screened in competition at the FIAPF-accredited Kolkata International Film Festival at Rabindra Sadan, and Bubbles (2024), which he shot and co-produced, was named an award winner at festivals in the United States, Germany, the United Kingdom, and Italy.
He trained in filmmaking at West Bengal University of Technology (iLEAD Kolkata) and the New York Film Academy, and earned Certificates of Achievement in Cinematography and Cinema Production at Los Angeles City College, where he received a Golden Globe Foundation fellowship. He is a member of the Television Academy’s Directors Peer Group, IATSE Local 111, Film Independent, and Filmmakers Alliance.
In late 2024, Surzo founded Craft Films LA, a Los Angeles production company whose first television commercial campaign, produced for DTLA Law Group, aired on national U.S. networks including NBC, FOX, and ABC and employed robotic motion-control camera systems. His films frequently center on human rights and social themes, from child welfare in The Auxiliary Verb to human trafficking in his feature Fields of Freedom, currently in development alongside Call from the 80s.
