Thea Ilic is a film director, producer, and visual artist currently based in Chicago.
She earned her degree in Film Directing in Belgrade, Serbia, where she was born and raised.
Early in her career, Thea’s artistic voice was shaped by mentors connected to the Yugoslav Black Wave, whose bold and socially conscious filmmaking left a lasting imprint on her creative approach. A committed feminist, Thea is driven to tell stories about people whose voices have been ignored, suppressed, or overlooked. Her work gravitates toward underdogs and marginalized perspectives-stories that are often left untold-and she approaches them with imagination, empathy, and a distinctive visual style.
Since relocating to the United States, Thea has continued to expand her career, contributing to a variety of high-profile television productions for Apple TV+, Warner Bros., Netflix, Hulu, and Paramount.
Alongside this work, she continues to consult on, produce, and direct independent film projects.
Outside of filmmaking, Thea is a fashion enthusiast, cat admirer, and an avid cook. In her free time, she can often be found at her local bouldering gym.
