Rachael Brown is an investigative journalist with the ABC, based in Melbourne.
She started her career as the ABC's Melbourne cadet in 2002, and has since held several postings, including Europe correspondent (2010-2013).
Rachael is the creator, investigator and host of the ABC's pioneer true-crime podcast, Trace. Rachael's review of the 1980 cold case of Maria James (Trace Season 1) sparked a new coronial inquest, and she published a book on the case (Trace: Who Killed Maria James? Scribe Publications).
Trace Season 2, The Informer, tells the story of defence-barrister-turned-police-informer Nicola Gobbo, with whom Rachael secured the world-exclusive interview.
In 2025, Rachael co-hosted the ABC's groundbreaking Mushroom Case Daily podcast, which covered the trial of Erin Patterson.
Rachael is a three-time Walkley Award winner.
She's taken up the ABC's inaugural role of Development Executive - True Crime, and is developing and producing true crime projects across Audio (podcast) and Screen (documentary).
