Stephen Kowalski

Stephen Kowalski is Director of Engineering at Netflix where he oversees the Digital Production & Infrastructure Engineering teams with the Digital Production & Animation Technologies organization. His teams create and execute the technical strategy for Product support in the Production space.
Prior to Netflix, Stephen served as Vice President of Systems Engineering at Sony Pictures Imageworks where he was responsible for all design, build and operations of the technical computing environments used to create CGI visual effects and animation for feature films. He joined Imageworks in 1995 as a Technical Assistant and, since that time, acquired comprehensive knowledge of visual effects technologies and workflows.
As the head of Imageworks Systems Engineering, Stephen lead teams through numerous site changes, expansions and office relocations; including the construction of a landmark remote data center to support U.S. and Canadian operations and helping to establish a state-of-the-art headquarters for Imageworks in downtown Vancouver, BC. During his tenure, Sony Corp. awarded Kowalski the title of Distinguished Engineer.
Stephen holds a BA in Philosophy from Vassar College. He resides in Los Angeles, California.
