Six years before working on her debut film Jacob Knight Rides a Rainbow, long before becoming an independent Russian production designer and creator of the legendary Uar, Natalia worked on interior design, additionally engaged in painting, sculpture and photography. Although painting has remained more of a hobby for her, in which she draws inspiration for her cinematic works (which, by the way, she talks about in a recent documentary about herself and her son, director Maxim Bogdanov, "And the sky is empty as always"), but it clearly left its mark on her special artistic style. which cannot be confused with any other. Her son's choice of profession caught the eye of his mother Natalia, and for five years she became his film artist. She had to study all the film production and be an additional producer. Commitment to high traditions in art, as well as unique created artistic images, locations and film concepts, which is a particularly striking example of modern high art. Natalia Bogdanova has about a hundred interior works on her account, in addition to such films as "Where Elephants Go", "The Height Limit" and "Jacob Knight rides a Rainbow", in which there is a clear connection with Bogdanova, the cinematographer. Natalia Bogdanova (Deborah Scharkmann) is a Russian-American production designer and conceptual designer, best known for her work on the films of director Maxim Bogdanov. She is a member of the Union of Cinematographers of Russia and the Union of Designers of Russia. Deborah's first feature film in Russia as a production designer was Jacob Knight Rides the Rainbow (2021) and Where the Elephants Are Going (2023). She received her first major award from the American Society of Cinematographers for her outstanding achievement in cinematography and international recognition. She is also known for her work in Growth Limit (2024), which made it to the SAA Oscar for Best Short Film. Deborah also worked as one of the visual consultants for Pixar's animation feature.
