Hilly Michaels

  • Drummer of legendary band Sparks.
  • Had a brief relationship with Marianne Faithfull the 1980s, while living together in New York City.
  • Later in life he worked as a producer and manager of marketing and development.
  • Played with artists such as The Cherry Vanilla Band, Peach & Lee, Sparks, Ellen Foley, The Hunter/Ronson Band, Dan Hartman, John Mellencamp, Marianne Faithfull and Ronnie Wood.
  • His first music experience came with playing in a band called Joy, featuring a young Michael Bolton.
  • In 1977, Hilly "Boy" Michaels as a solo artist did an excellent cover of "Instant Karma" on the Big Sound Records' Phil Spector tribute "Bionic Gold".
  • In 1979, Jake Hooker worked with Michaels to capture a million-dollar deal with Warner Bros. Records and a music video to promote Calling All Girls in 1980 with Roy Thomas Baker as the producer.
  • He was a New York -based session drummer when he was hired to work with Sparks on their album and was the only session musician subsequently invited to join the North American tour with the group.
  • He also made an appearance with Sparks in the film Rollercoaster, where they performed the songs Big Boy and Fill'er Up from the album.
  • In addition to his collaborations, he gained recognition as a solo artist for his two solo albums: 1980's Calling All Girls and 1981's Lumia.
