Evan Bode is an award-winning filmmaker, writer, composer, animator, and arts educator who challenges borders, boxes, and binaries with a playful mix of mediums. Their work has screened at major festivals in the United States and around the world.
Embracing colorful, handcrafted, independent modes of production, Bode's short films merge live-action filmmaking with animation and original music, telling stories that champion creative self-expression in resistance to oppressive social systems.
Evan's first film, Thine Own Self, has screened at festivals around the world including Animafest Zagreb. In 2021, Evan was one of five filmmakers selected as a winner of the Gotham Institute's Student Showcase sponsored by JetBlue and Focus Features, a success featured in Filmmaker Magazine. Their second film, A Spot for Frog, was met with similar acclaim, including a "Director's Choice Award" at Thomas Edison Film Festival and a screening at Outfest L.A. in 2023.
