Biography

Philip Hamilton, filmmaker, photographer, producer and author. He has over thirty years diving and sailing experience and has documented most marine animals on the planet, from the majestic Blue whale to the smallest underwater critters. Before turning to ocean conservation, Philip had a 25-year successful career in finance. He has lived in Chile, UK, Switzerland, France, Hong Kong and Spain. He is fluent in English, French and Spanish.

Philip’s work has been featured on TV and in books as well as being quoted in several titles including The Times, GQ Magazine, The Economist, CNN and The Guardian. His conservation projects have also been presented on BBC Earth, at the United Nations as well as having generated multi million views on social media.

He is founder and director of Ocean Souls Films Ltd, a UK based production company, focused on producing conservation documentaries and also a director of US based 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization, Wildlife Media.

Philip is also a published author of two ground breaking marine conservation books. The most recent book, Call of the Blue II, is a fascinating book with 376 pages filled with the most spectacular photography plus a wonderful chapter on Antarctica. It also features the most inspiring stories from acclaimed scientists and ocean ‘guardians’ who reveal what drove them to answer the "Call of the Blue."

Since 2020, Philip has directed and produced several documentaries all focusing on ocean conservation.

Ocean Souls (2020) won 17 international film awards. An unprecedented collaboration of over 100 filmmakers, 25 scientists as well as several leading experts, about the wonderful cetacean family. A ‘Behind The Scenes’ film was also made telling the story of how such a large community united to create the film.

The Blue Forest (2021) a 35 minutes long film about the importance of seaweed and kelp ecosystems and the exploitation of wild kelp forests in Chile (the world’s largest exporter).

Collision (2022), a powerful award winning documentary about vessel collisions with whales and what can be done to prevent these fatalities caused by increasing shipping traffic. The film was screened at UNESCO HQ in Paris as well as the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

Red a sea worth protecting (2023) focuses on the IUCN Red List and highlights the efforts of scientists and conservationists in the Red Sea to save a variety of endangered species including the Dugong, turtles and sharks.

In 2024, a short film, Why Blame the Seagulls? was released and highlights and investigates the alarming effects of relentless, vicious attacks from seagulls on whales, the impact it is having on the species and what is being done to resolve the issue.

For 2026, Philip has many ongoing projects including a project called "From Remote Places" (due 2026). This feature film will cover the conservation issues and environmental threats even the world's most remote places are facing.

In addition to producing films and publishing books, Philip is also delighted that in May 2025, our sailing catamaran, Ocean Souls Explorer, began sailing the seas on a mission to transform science to stories & conservation. This floating broadcasting vessel is exploring subtropical waters and coastlines and scientists and NGO's are invited on board to work on regular & specific campaigns. It is a very exciting step forward in ocean conservation and the team looks forward to reporting the findings and discoveries direct from the vessel.
