Sergio Pelone

After 20 years of factory work in various sectors of industry in Italy and Australia, Sergio Pelone chose to work in the cinema business.
Sergio began his cinema career in 1985 as Administration Manager for CIDIF S.p.A., collaborating with Gino Agostini and Enzo Della Scala. In 1993 he was employed as Administration and Financial Manager for Angelo Rizzoli's Gruppo Finerre S.p.A. and from 1994 he collaborated with the distribution company Lucky Red under the management of Kermit Smith and and Andrea Occhipinti.
In 1999 he produced his first movie Jurij (with original music by Leonard Rensenman and directed by Stefano Gabrini) with his own company, established in 1997. It won numerous awards, including the Foreign Press Golden Globe.
In 2000 Sergio Pelone started his partnership with Marco Bellocchio in "Filmalbatros S.r.l.". In 2001 the company produced the movie "L'ora di religione", selected for the 2002 Cannes Film Festival where it won the Prix Oecumènique and received the Jury's special mention. Subsequently, the movie won several other national and international awards. In 2002 "Filmalbatros" produced the docu-drama "Addio del passato"(Marco Bellocchio), selected for the 59th Mostra Internazionale delle Arti Cinematografiche di Venezia in the section Nuovi Territori
In 2003 he co-produced the documentary film Stessa rabbia, stessa primavera (directed by Stefano Incerti), selected for the 60th Mostra Internazionale delle Arti Cinematografiche di Venezia in the section Nuovi Territori.
In 2003 Sergio Pelone co-produced "Buongiorno, Notte" (Marco Bellocchio) in competition at the 60th Mostra Internazionale delle Arti Cinematografiche di Venezia where it won the Special Prize for an Individual Contribution (screenplay). The movie also won the FIPRESCI European Film Award for the year 2003. It was selected in over than 20 festivals around the world. The movie was sold all around the world.
In 2005/6 he co-produced "Il Regista di Matrimoni" directed by Marco Bellocchio. The movie was in competition in Cannes 2006 in the section "Un Certain Regard". It won several prizes including the Franco Cristaldi Prize for best producer of the year in Italy.
Starting in 2006, with his original company, he co-produced Two Tigers (2006) a Chinese-Italian co-production, directed by Sandro Cecca and shot entirely in Shanghai; the short movie Sangre de Perro (2006), directed by Leonardo D'Agostini; Sopra le Nuvole (2008), directed by Sabrina Guigli e Riccardo Stefani; the documentary Quando Combattono gli Elefanti (2009), directed by Simone Amendola. In 2010 he produced Gorbaciof, directed by Stefano Incerti and starring Toni Servillo.
In 2010 he founded a new production company, Trullove Cinema S.r.l. with which he has produced numerous short films with the aim of discovering new talent.
Sergio Pelone has been a member of the Accademy of Italian Cinema - David di Donatello awards since 2001 and the European Film Academy since 2002.
