Yvanna Cancela

Yvanna Cancela is an American politician who served as a Nevada State Senator from 2017 to 2021, when she stepped down to join President Joe Biden's administration as the Deputy Director of the U.S. Health and Human Services office of Intergovernmental Affairs. Cancela was selected as one of seventeen speakers to jointly deliver the keynote address at the 2020 Democratic National Convention. She holds a BA in Communications from Northwestern University and a Juris Doctor from the William S. Boyd School of Law. She grew up in Miami, the daughter of longtime Telemundo Station Group president Jose Cancela and step-sister of Saturday Night Live (1975) star Marcello Hernández.
