Sprague Theobald

Biography

Sprague Theobald

Overview

  • Born
    June 6, 1951 · USA
  • Height
    6′ 3″ (1.91 m)

Mini bio

  • Sprague started his professional acting career at the age of 18 with his debut in summer stock at renowned Hampton Playhouse in NH. From there his work took him to Washington, D.C., Boston, New York and ultimately Los Angeles. Along the way he studied with Lee Strasberg, Mark Rydell and Ada Mather-Brown to name a few. As you can read in his resume, he has appeared in multiple films and television shows.

During his television work in Los Angeles, in the mid '90s, Sprague took a "part time" job on a documentary. 25 years and two Emmys later Sprague recently returned to his first passion, acting... but not before setting some extraordinary, exploration history. In 2009 he and a small crew found and successfully navigated the Arctic's ship-killing Northwest Passage on a 57' boat. His second Emmy award winning documentary, "THE OTHER SIDE OF THE ICE", was the result of this five month trip through the high Arctic. The book of the same name was a best seller on many of Amazon's lists. He has received both national and international recognition for his acting, writing, producing, cinematography, and editing.

As a successful documentarian, he and his production company - Hole In The Wall Productions - have worked from Alaska to Zanzibar. His films have been well received. One of the many highlights was his first Emmy Award for his America's Cup documentary, "The 25th Defense."

Sprague's writing and commentary have been published in The New York Times as well as many major national and international magazines. He spent several seasons as a staff writer for two of the Showtime Network's episodic shows and worked as a successful screenwriter in Los Angeles. Sprague has also worked both in front of and behind the camera as a broadcast journalist/producer for eight years at an NBC affiliate.

Trivia

  • After (almost) graduating from college, while looking for gainful employment, Sprague was lead to Redskin Park in Herndon, VA. To make a gruesome story less so, Sprague spent the full day trying out for the NFL team, the Washington Redskins, as a free agent. At 6' 3" tall and 210 lbs. he was the smallest and most unimpressive man on the field; a chiropractor's delight.
