Biography

Fernando Salem is a director and screenwriter. He studied Communication Sciences at the University of Buenos Aires (UBA) and graduated as a Filmmaker from ENERC (INCAA). He trained under the guidance of the prestigious director José Martínez Suárez and later specialized in directing actors in New York, further refining his craft.

His thesis short film Trillizas Propaganda! premiered at the Venice Film Festival, won awards at San Sebastián, and received the prestigious Cóndor de Plata.

In 2014, he directed his debut feature Cómo funcionan casi todas las cosas (How Most Things Work), which won the Best Director award at the Mar del Plata International Film Festival during its world premiere, along with the Best Argentine Script award across all categories. The film also garnered three Sur Awards: Best First Film, Best New Actress, and Best Supporting Actress. How Most Things Work remained in theaters for 14 months, supported by an unprecedented promotional campaign personally led by Fernando.

In 2020, he released his second feature film La muerte no existe y el amor tampoco (Death Doesn't Exist and Love Neither), based on Romina Paula's novel Agosto. The film premiered at the Mar del Plata International Film Festival and became a box office record-holder for an independent Argentine film.

Fernando is best known as a creator of children's content. His work includes La Asombrosa Excursión de Zamba (Zamba's Amazing Excursion), which earned him his first nomination for the International Emmy® Kids Awards, among other international accolades. He also created the animated series Siesta Z (Paka-Paka, Señal Colombia), another Emmy® Kids nominee, and serves as the screenwriter for Petit, based on the work of acclaimed illustrator Isol Misenta.
