Streaming Stars, Then and Now

Marshall Lewy is a producer and content executive best known for his podcast work at Wondery, including Dr. Death (2018) and The Shrink Next Door (2019), and for the independent films Blue State (2007) and California Solo (2012). He grew up in Mamaroneck, New York, the son of Cheryl Winter Lewy and Glen S. Lewy, graduated magna cum laude from Harvard University, and earned a Master of Fine Arts in film from Columbia University, where he was a directing concentrate.

Lewy began as a filmmaker, writing and directing the short films Balkanization (2002) and Future Imperfect (2005) before making his feature debut with the road-trip comedy Blue State, which he also wrote. His second feature, California Solo, which he again wrote and directed, won the Jury Prize at the Woodstock Film Festival and the Grand Special Prize at the Deauville Film Festival, among other honors. He later worked as a producer on the film Coin Heist (2017).

Lewy moved into audio as an executive producer and eventually chief content officer at Wondery, where he built a body of true-crime and narrative podcasts beginning with Dr. Death in 2018, followed by Over My Dead Body (2019), Man in the Window: The Golden State Killer (2019), The Shrink Next Door, and Killer Psyche (2021), among many others. Several of these were adapted for television, including Dr. Death (2021) and The Shrink Next Door (2021), on which he held executive producer credits as the originating podcast's producer. Series he executive produced received Emmy nominations in 2016 and 2025, and his podcast work earned an IDA Award nomination in 2019 and a PGA Awards nomination for the David L. Wolper Award in 2026. When Amazon reorganized its audio operations in 2025 and folded Wondery's narrative podcast output into Audible, Lewy moved over to that division, and in early 2026 Audible named him Head of Content for North America, overseeing original podcasts, audio dramas, audiobooks, and Audible Theater, reporting to Chief Content Officer Rachel Ghiazza. He has been married to Heather Fowler since September 20, 2008.
