Biography

Based in Atlanta, Joey fell in love with acting at a young age, obsessed with the process of film making as a collaborative art piece. He started developing his skills as an entertainer through children's theater productions, getting comfortable in front of an audience. Having been inspired by behind-the-scenes documentaries on the Raiders of the Lost Ark DVD, he decided to hone his skills through creating home movies with his friends and family. Since 2020, Joey has attended courses to further his understanding of acting as an art form and as a business. He attended Chattahoochee Technical College to pursue a degree in Film & Video Production. Alongside his closest friends, Joey created a production company titled Big Dumb Movie Men. This would serve as his playing field to practice film making from all angles. He learned firsthand the importance that each person holds in crafting a production. Joey Avena is an actor at heart, but he has practical experience is almost every major department of film making.

Despite it's release date, Joey's first on-screen appearance was in the movie Hubcap as a background actor. Those scenes were filmed in 2017, and the cast also included his Mother and Father.

Joey's initial inspiration to seek a career in film started from repeatedly watching the behind-the-scenes documentaries that were included on Indiana Jones DVDs. He was even inspired to create his own melting face effect based on the ending scene from Raiders of the Lost Ark. It was made out of play-dough and paint.

As a child, Joey's first theater performance had him playing the Nintendo character Super Mario. The stage play was about a group of siblings that are transported into their parent's VHS tapes and video games that were left in their attic, making their way through each title.
