Amanda Morell, known as iiritu, is a Bronx-born filmmaker and editor of Dominican and Puerto Rican descent. Her work blends emotion, nature, and memory to explore themes of love, loss, and ancestral connection. Recognized by institutions including BRIC, GLAAD, BlackStar Film Festival, and the Elizabeth Foundation for the Arts, her films center BIPOC communities with care and imagination. Her latest short, hija de Florinda, was featured in a four-month exhibition at MOCA Los Angeles.
iiritu is currently in post production for her latest project, Colors We Made, a poetic sci-fi love story addressing maternal mortality in Black and Brown communities. The film is part of Mother Justice, a five-film series supported by Level Forward. Through her lens, iiritu continues to build a cinematic language rooted in spirit, healing, and memory.
