Mario Busto Calderón is a composer specialized in film, television, and video game music whose work is defined by a strong cinematic sensibility and stylistic versatility. His musical language has been shaped through years of dedication to the study of film scores, drawing inspiration from a wide range of composers, films, and audiovisual narratives, as well as through his experience composing for projects ranging from short films to feature films and video games.
He began his musical training independently and self-taught, later earning direct admission into the Master’s Degree in Composition for Audiovisual Media at Katarina Gurska. He subsequently received a scholarship to pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in Film Music at the Film Scoring Academy of Europe, where he trained with internationally renowned professionals, including Norman Ludwin, known for his work with composers such as Michael Giacchino and John Williams.
Throughout his career, Mario has received nominations and awards in several international festivals and competitions, including the Film Music Contest, the European Recording Orchestra Competition, the Best Music for Short Film award at L’HIFF, and recognition at the Almagro International Film Festival.
Guided by the idea that "music is the inner voice of the image," his artistic approach seeks to enhance and give emotional depth to visual storytelling through a broad musical palette ranging from symphonic orchestration and contemporary cinematic writing to minimalist, synthetic, and experimental sound design.
