Morteza Ahmadvand is an Iranian visual artist and filmmaker whose work moves between memory, displacement, and the meeting point of personal stories with larger collective histories. Born in Khorramabad, he began his artistic path through painting, sculpture, and video art. Over the years, his installations and moving-image works have appeared in major international exhibitions, including Becoming at the 58th Venice Biennale, Flight in the permanent collection of the Centre Pompidou, Simurgh at the Museum of Hunting and Nature in Paris, and Cube at Art Istanbul.
Alongside this visual practice, Ahmadvand gradually entered documentary cinema, shaping a style that blends poetic observation with social and political realities. His latest film premiered at the 2025 Venice Film Festival and received the Art and Cinema Award at the festival's 82nd edition, adding a significant recognition to his career.
He also served as the artistic director of the acclaimed documentary Radiograph of a Family, which won Best Feature-Length Documentary at IDFA 2020. In recent years, Ahmadvand's work has grown more focused on ideas of existence and time, often approached through geometric forms-a direction that carries into his latest film, Past, Future, Continuous.
