Patrick H. Kohl is a experienced high-end film director and producer based in the realm of non-fictional productions, and selected commercial collaborations. His journey as a filmmaker started after a road-trip to the United States in 2008. He wrote a fictional book and this creative spark started a fire that would take him from Los Angeles back to Germany, where he worked as an intern and later as editor for a TV production company, producing short docs and TV pieces for German national television and cable TV.
In 2012 he was one of the founders of the film production Filmkartell Filmproduktion GmbH based in Berlin, which he left three years later. From 2015-2017 he freelanced as producer and director for brands, agencies and broadcast, producing campaigns and directing smaller commercials.
2017 he was hired by the Berlin based design company IXDS (later acquired by PwC Germany) as head of motion pictures, where he was responsible for all internal and external video content, working for clients and communication.
Since 2019 he followed his heart and established the label "bettercallkohl" as director and producer, developing and working on his own productions, also collaborating with international brands, agencies, NGOs and foundations on high-end non fictional content and selected commercial productions. He is multiple award-winning career led to being distributed on all major networks such as Netflix, Prime Video, Apple+, ARD+, and WaterBear Network.
He worked and produced in diverse regions, such as Cambodia, Nepal, Afghanistan, Iraq, Lebanon, Nigeria, Yemen, UK, Europe, and South Africa.
Patrick lived in Los Angeles (2008), Berlin (2008-2020), Cape Town (2021), Beirut (2022-2023) and in Dakar (2024). He works on film projects worldwide and develops several feature documentaries and documentary series.
