Mini bio

  • Carla Susan Lewis is a versatile SAG-AFTRA, AEA character actress who has passionately returned to acting after an award winning career in psychology and social justice activism for the underserved. Recently returning and transitioning from theatre to Film/TV she won multiple Best Actress Awards at various International Film Festivals for her performance as Lynn Smith in A Silent call: Can Anyone Hear Me? (2022). She has also co-starred on FBI: Most Wanted (2020) .

Her roots were in NYC with early stage training at the historic HB Herbert Berghof/Uta Hagen Studio where she also coached with members of the Actors Studio. She moonlighted in Shakespeare rep and NYC equity showcases while completing her PhD in personality and social psychology fields that fascinated her and provided actor's tools. After working in compelling contemporary, classical, and developmental regional and off Broadway productions and readings her focus is on-camera work, staying sharp daily in labs, rehearsal groups, table reads and industry networks with like-minded artists. Cast in both complex, dramatic and quirky, feisty roles.

Quotes

  • I use a lot of very specific imagery, imagination, and body work as well as fictional projections to enrich the history of the character and relationships - kind of like a more visceral biography.
  • There is always a thread between myself and what is on the page that gets triggered, sometimes subconsciously and that connection, when it is true radiates to the audience. We become one. I feel them breathe.
  • I see humans as beautiful violins and our instrument gets played by the text.
  • Acting is ageless. It mirrors life. So, there is no giving up. It is like breathing.
  • I adore storytelling and the opportunity to "live the life" of a character as we find them within ourselves.
