Elder sister of María Luisa Landín.

I can say, a little proudly, that if I have succeeded it has been due to my own effort.

Foreign countries love Mexico very much and appreciate and value all Mexican artistic expressions. I traveled through South America making the indispensable stopover in Cuba, where we [Mexicans] are so esteemed. My economic boom dates from then. I earned enough to be able to get to Mexico and immediately demand higher wages for my work.

[when asked if singing two songs in a program and charging 400 or 500 pesos for it was a job] Of course it is work, sir! Because a good voice, a natural gift, is not enough. You have to put in what you do, a feeling and a spirit, which are the base of any good performance. And takes work. Besides, you people find it very easy to stand before a microphone and open your mouth. You do not realize the amount of professional and personal rehearsals we have to do to achieve the public's approval.

[when asked, "Was the struggle to achieve success difficult?"] Of course it was difficult! Difficult and lengthy. I can say that it was more difficult for me than it was for my sister María Luisa. It wasn't very easy for her, either. We began to sing so many years ago, when songstresses were not called as such but were thick opera singers. But people believed in our talent. We had to fight against intrigue and envy, two things so peculiar in this business.
