I was actually a really smart kid. When I was in middle school, I was put in the advanced math program. I took a lot of AP classes and college classes. My family, they were OK. They were really abusive. Not a traditional Asian tiger family. I think they were just more on their values. They grew up differently than me. Every first-generation grew up differently than their kids and it was hard. They were abusive at times but I think they did their best. They just reflected on what they grew up with which may have not been the best but they just didn't know better and they just weren't ingratiated in the Western World. I think about it a lot but I try not to blame them as much as possible because they tried their best. My parents worked at a factory and, just thinking about it, is that something you want to do forever? They did it because they had kids and they were in the United States and they wanted to work hard.
