Biography

Sydney J. is an award-winning queer independent filmmaker from the Lekwungan territory whose work explores addiction, identity & sexuality, and anti-capitalism. Sydney completed her BA and MFA in creative writing at the University of Victoria where she has continued working in a teaching capacity while honing her craft as a writer, director, and producer. In 2023, Sydney began exploring her gender identity, eventually leading to her coming out as trans-feminine. As she continues her transition, she looks forward to making films under her new name and gender.
