According to reports published in 1953, she was a second-generation show business success. Her father was song writer Harry Miller, and her mother Margaret Miller was a showgirl with the Ziegfeld Follies.

She has appeared in two film that have been selected for the National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically or aesthetically" significant: The Band Wagon (1953) & A Star Is Born (1954).
