  • Besarion Giorgobiani got passionately interested in art while studying at Medical Institute. He made sculptures, wrote stories and played classical guitar. After graduating Medical Institute of Tbilisi, he worked as a psychiatrist. The quest of kindness and love in limitless space of humans' spiritual world strengthened his faith to become a film director. The road of film artist became the principal aim in his life.

    Besarion Giorgobiani was working as a doctor for some years and at the same time he was also doing degrees in the Arts Faculty. While being a student, he shot films "Somnambulist"; and "Accidentally Seen Face", which were nominated in Kiev International film festival (Ukraine), and were awarded with the prize of 'Best Directing'. One of his films "The Birthday" won a prize for 'Audience Sympathy' in Anjes International film festival (France).

    After Kiev Festival, Besarion Giorgobiani was invited in Odessa film studio (Ukraine) to shoot full-length feature film "Instant". The film shootings were held in Chechnya, Ingushetia and Dagestan, on the territory of formed USSR, where the wars of mountaineer people of south Caucasus for independence and separation from Russian empire are extremely exacerbated nowadays. The feature film tells the story about Chechen nation, moving to Kazakhstan when USSR was governed by Stalin.

    After finishing the film in Odessa Studio, Besarion Giorgobiani was invited in Moscow TV films Studio (Russia). In TV films studio he made short-length feature film "Old Photo" and full-length documentary film "Catastrophe". "Old Photo" took part in Cannes International Film Festival in 1991.

    In 1993 Besarion Giorgobiani returned home and shot full-length feature film, adventure action "Duru". Film stimulated great interest of Georgian audience, as well as audience of the USSR countries.

    In 90s Union of Soviet Socialist Republics ruins and film production almost completely disappears. Those years Besarion Giorgobiani made some TV commercials, entertaining TV show "Adults' Tale", also was a supervisor of directing group in Theatrical Institute, was executive director of stock company 'Georgian Film' and manager of deputy of relationship with foreign countries in National Centre of Cinematography of Georgia.

    In 2003 Besarion Giorgobiani shot long series feature film "27 Dragons" for TV Company 'Imedi'. Also he produced short-length feature film "If This Day Never Happened" with the money from private investor.

    At present he supervises the foundation of association of Georgian film producers, the establishment of festival-fair of video format feature films.

    In addition to all the information given above, he practices yoga and is deeply interested in Zen Buddhism.
